Vertical Project 5: Final Disposal in Deep Geological Formations without Options for Retrieval

Objectives

  • research on  aspects of the waste management option  „deep geological disposal without maintenance “ (see description of the WP)
  • establishing basics for the assessment of disposal options to be applied to the transversal projects.  This is done by means of literature study and synthesis

Work Package 5.3: Numeric Modelling of THMC-Processes

Objective

Integration of existing or to be developed tools for numeric modelling of selected thermal, hydraulic, mechanical and chemical processes into the software developed by WP 4.1:

  • THM-linked near field process simulation in saline rocks (WP 5.1)
  • THM-linked near field process simulation in claystones (including two-phase-flow) (WP 5.2)
  • THC-modell of the behavior of soluted contaminants  in the temperature field and along gradients of salinity
